Flood Control Room To Remain Functional From June 15

Making efforts in advance to prevent water logging during the monsoon season, Mayor Principal Inderjit Kaur and Municipal Corporation (MC) Commissioner Dr Neeru Katyal Gupta conducted a review meeting at MC Zone A office on Wednesday and directed the officials to make all necessary arrangements well in advance.
As per the civic body officials, 142 low lying areas have been identified in the city and necessary steps, including deployment of machinery/staff, cleaning of road gullies/sewers etc, are already being taken in the respective areas.
The work to clean the sewer lines is also going on extensivley across the city. The concerned officials of O&M cell have been directed to submit certificates confirming cleaning of all the road gullies and covering of manholes in their respective areas. Further the officials have been directed to ensure proper functioning of all disposal points in the city and generator sets should be installed at these points.
MC Joint Commissioner Vineet Kumar, Joint Commissioner Amanpreet Singh, Joint Commissioner Harveer Kaur, Joint Commissioner Tapan Bhanot, Zonal Commissioner Neeraj Jain, Zonal Commissioner Gurpal Singh, Zonal Commissioner Jasdev Sekhon, Superintending Engineer (SE) Ekjot Singh, SE Harpreet Singh, Executive Engineer Balraj Singh, CSO Ashwani Sahota among other officials were present in the meeting.
The civic body officials have also been directed to strengthen the banks of Buddha Dariya especially the vulnerable points to prevent overflow during the monsoon season. Mayor Inderjit Kaur and MC Commissioner Dr Gupta directed the officials to ensure atleast 5000 sandbags in the stock to tackle any situation during the rainy season.
For ensuring safety of sewermen among other employees working at the ground level, the officials have been directed to provide safety kits, raincoats etc. Mayor Inderjit Kaur and MC Commissioner Dr Gupta stated that the flood control room of the civic body will be made functional at Daresi sub-zone office of the civic body from June 15 onwards.
Further the officials have been directed to conduct fogging on a regular basis to keep the residents safe from vector borne diseases especially during the monsoon season. The officials have also been directed to conduct a survey of unsafe buildings across the city and serve notices to get the buildings vacated /demolished to avoid any untoward incident during the rainy season.
Stating that all necessary steps are being taken in advance to prevent water logging during the rainy season, Mayor Inderjit Kaur and MC Commissioner Dr Gupta appealed to the residents to stop dumping waste in road gullies and sewer lines as this chokes the drainage and sewer system.
Irrigation department directed to ensure cleaning of Buddha Darira beyond city limits:
Mayor Inderjit Kaur and MC Commissioner Dr Gupta directed the officials of the irrigation department present in the meeting that they should ensure cleaning of Buddha Dariya beyond the city limits (both upstream and downstream areas). Mayor Inderjit Kaur and MC Commissioner Dr Gupta stated that in the coming days they would also be conducing field inspections to take stock of the situation at the ground level.
